Jennifer Garrett, onsite radiation therapist at Total Skin & Beauty Dermatology
What is Superficial Radiation Therapy?
Total Skin & Beauty Dermatology Center has partnered with SkinCure Oncology to offer patients Superficial Radiation Treatment (SRT) for non-melanoma skin cancer. Jennifer Garrett, the onsite Radiation Therapist, administers this non-invasive and non-surgical alternative treatment for non-melanoma Basal and squamous cell carcinomas.
Unlike traditional radiation therapy which involves treatment within the body, the Sensus SRT-100 machine is a small portable device which delivers a very low energy that penetrates just below the surface of the skin. Because of the utilization of the low energies typical skin reaction is usually mild, which commonly causes irritation and redness. A full regimen consists of 20 to 25 treatments, 3 to 4 times a week for a clinical outcome of 95%+ efficacy. During the treatments a patient can expect to be present for 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many areas need to be treated. The actual delivery of radiation is typically 20 to 25 seconds and is completely painless which allows patients to maintain a quality of life with no downtime or discontinued use of critical medications.
