Amber Jackson, PA-C, was recently invited to lecture first-year Physician Assistant students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) as part of their Surgical Disease course.

During the lecture, Amber shared a real-world perspective as a practicing physician assistant on the diagnosis and treatment of common and complex skin cancers. Topics included squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, and the rare but aggressive Merkel cell carcinoma.
She also reviewed common dermatologic procedures used in practice, including biopsy techniques, excision, Mohs surgery, electrodessication and curettage, as well as lipoma and cyst management.
The session gave students practical insight into how these conditions are treated in clinical settings and helped connect classroom learning with hands-on dermatology care.
This lecture was part of the Surgical Disease course led by Heather Neighbors, MSPAS, PA-C, Co-Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor. We appreciate the opportunity to support the education and training of future physician assistants.
At Total Dermatology, we are committed to education, mentorship, and delivering high-quality dermatologic care to our community and beyond.
