Total Dermatology Welcomes Board-Certified Dermatologist and Dermatopathologist Andrew Fortugno, MD 

Total Dermatology is proud to announce the addition of Andrew Fortugno, MD, to its distinguished team of physicians. Dr. Fortugno, A board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist, brings advanced clinical expertise, academic excellence, and a patient-centered approach to care, further strengthening Total Dermatology’s commitment to delivering exceptional skin health services to the Birmingham community and beyond.  

Dr. Fortugno specializes in medical dermatology and dermatopathology and provides care for patients of all ages. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia before completing medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he graduated first in his class and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 2020. 

He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2024 and was selected as Chief Resident during his final year of training. Driven by a passion for diagnostic excellence, Dr. Fortugno pursued additional subspecialty training through a dermatopathology fellowship at UAB in 2025. Prior to joining Total Dermatology, he served as faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and as staff physician at the Birmingham Veterans Hospital. He is an active member of both the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatopathology.
